Mathieu
Apprentice Operator - Leeds, UK
Before I started my apprentice role with Rotork, I was in full-time education and had no previous work experience. In my spare time, I go hiking with friends, and I am learning the piano and guitar.
Why did you apply for an apprentice role with Rotork?
I have always been interested in engineering and wanted to take a more practical approach to learning.
What does a typical day /week look like for you as an apprentice at Rotork?
I am currently working for Rotork Site Services (RSS). I often strip down actuators to diagnose issues, rebuild an actuator, and repair or replace any parts.
What do you enjoy the most in your apprentice role?
I enjoy being able to get hands-on experience. I like working with tools and machines and being able to approach problems and overcome them in a practical way. Everyone I work with is easy to get on with and a good laugh!
What have you learnt from being an apprentice?
I have learnt many behaviours and skills essential to an engineer and the workplace in general, such as the importance of timekeeping and being organised. I have also learnt basic engineering principles.
How are you supported in the workplace and at college to achieve your qualification?
I have been given various jobs in the workplace, which have given me the knowledge and skills needed to gain my qualifications. I am able to seek advice and assistance when I am unsure about anything.
What are you looking forward to most in your career at Rotork?
I am looking forward to developing my engineering capabilities and using various techniques to build and service different actuators.
